Once upon a time, Christmas was Kayla Green's favorite time of year. Now all the workaholic wants for Christmas is for it to be over—as fast as possible! So when duty calls her to snowy Vermont to close a deal with a new client, Kayla is grateful for an excuse to avoid the holidays for another year.

Jackson O'Neil left a thriving business behind to return home and salvage his family's resort—it's in his blood, and he can't let it fail. Now that he's got marketing whiz Kayla Green working with him to put Snow Crystal on the map, success is on the horizon. The fact they strike enough sparks off each other to power all the Christmas lights in Vermont is just an added bonus.

Kayla might be an expert at her job, but she's out of her depth with Jackson—he makes her crave the happy-ever-after she once dreamed of, and it's terrifying. As the snowflakes continue to swirl, will the woman who doesn't believe in the magic of Christmas finally fall under its spell?

My thoughts

I honestly have to say I had not planned to read this one. I was sick with a flu two weeks ago and I had lots of time for reading but whatever I started, nothing felt right and I was not in the mood for reading.

Sneaking through tweets on Twitter I found out about the bargain of Sleigh Bells in the Snow on Amazon. I thought I just give it a go and it just was what I needed! Thanks to @ PajamaBookGirl by the way! It was the first book I have read by Sarah Morgan and it won’t be the last.

Kayla Green, a marketing agent, a workaholic and ancontrol freak, hates Christmas. She does whatever she can to avoid it. The only thing that makes her happy is to hurl herself into work. It was not always like that. It used to be her favorite time of the year. When she was just thirteen years old Kayla had a traumatic experience which made her hating Christmas so much.

Kayla is working for a PR company called Innovation. Her newest client is Jackson O’Neill. He was running his own company in Sweden but has come home to run his family’s failing mountain resort called Snow Crystal after his father’s tragic death. The O’Neill family is about to lose their family business and family home. The last eighteen months have been a stressful time for him as he attempts to push the resort forward and his grandfather stubbornly refuses to change.

Jackson has to decide that they need Kayla’s PR magic to save Snow Crystal. He invites Kayla to leave New York City and come to Snow Crystal in Vermont for the week of Christmas so that she is able to get a feel for Snow Crystal and base her campaign around real life experience. Kayla jumps at the chance because she thinks it will allow her to avoid Christmas. A secluded cabin and solitude sounds like heaven – after all she doesn’t have any family that ever wants her around and Christmas is an especially painful time of year. Unfortunately for her, she finds herself surrounded by holiday cheer and spirit.

Kayla meets with Jackson, they both feels such an intense connection to each other at the very beginning. Jackson knew Kayla was the right choice to give Snow Crystal a national audience, but he didn’t plan on falling in love. Meanwhile, being thrown in with the close-knit O’Neill’s opens wounds Kayla thought had healed long ago. As the two struggle with their strong emotions, Sarah Morgan introduces a cast of endearing supporting characters. Jackson’s twin, surgeon Sean, the ski instructor Brenna, the cook Elise, the other brother Tyler and his daughter Jess. Jacksons mother Elizabeth who is actually British but has lived in America for thirty-five years and many more. Can Kayla save Snow Crystal and especially herself?

I loved this Christmas themed book and it was exactly what I want out of a holiday romance. It was sexy, romantic, full of great characters and the setting of the book was magical, the author made you want to book a log cabin there. Not all of the storyline was focused on Kayla and her problem with Christmas there was also the workings of Snow Crystal and also the other characters had their own little story going on too which is weaved into the main storyline perfectly and kept me turning those pages to see what happens to them next.

If I have things to complaint about this story, it is that Kayla was a bit too cold and cynical sometimes and the dislike for Christmas was a bit over the top if you ask me. I think the ending was a bit to rushed and unrealistic. Even though it was a fantastic christmassy read. Can’t wait for the next story set in Snow Crystal, and  to see which brother we get to watch fall in love next. Suddenly Last Summer is the second book and is set to release in June of 2014.
