Friends Friday: Paris Baker of Book Nook

I’m very happy to welcome you on my blog! You can please introduce yourself to my readers.
Thanks so much for having me! Hi everyone, I’m Paris, I’m 23 and I’m a bookaholic. Reading was my first love when I was teeny tiny, and throughout my whole life books have been my most favourite and most precious things. As I grew up, I wanted to write my own stories, as well as read others, and I’m now writing my first novel as well as being an avid book blogger. I’m also a hopeless romantic, so romance books of any sort are always my favourite.

Where do we find your blog and how long have you been blogging / reviewing?

You can find me over at my Book Nook - http://parisbakerwriting.wordpress.com It’s still pretty much a baby blog, I only started it a couple of months a go, but it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. I actually started it to encourage me with my writing, as I felt I’d kept putting it off, and it’s been a great help there, but I didn’t foresee how much it would further encourage my love of reading. It very quickly turned into a book blog and I have met the most amazing community of friends, who I love very dearly.

Describe the place where you live!

I live in Jersey, my tiny little 9 by 5 mile island off France, and it’s my favourite place in the world. It’s truly beautiful, full of gorgeous beaches, woods and still holds onto its old French influence. I’ve always loved the sea and beaches, and often find myself near the ocean when I want time to think or write or read, even if the winter months. The whole island is magical to me.

How do you decide what goes on to your TBR list and what order you read them?

This is a never ending struggle! I always just want to read everything at once as soon as I hear about it! NetGalley has been a huge game-changer, and is a real privilege for us book bloggers. I try to read the books I receive in as methodical an order as possible, based on the order I get them, as well as the release dates, for review copies. Of course I’m always picking up my books of my own all the time too, and sometimes you just get special ones that demand to be read then and there, so my well-organised plans are often changed!

If you don't feel the same emotions as others who have read the same book does that bother you?

Sometimes, particularly if I have really love something and someone else doesn’t, but only because I feel like they might be missing something - I feel like I need to sit them down and spend 3 hours explaining in depth the beauty they are not seeing! But ultimately everyone is completely entitle to their own opinion, and I think the book blogging community is an amazingly supportive network, regardless of any differences of opinion.

How often do you buy books?

More often than I should! Haha. Sometimes, every day. I can’t help it, it really is an addiction. Especially with my kindle now and the ease of ebooks on amazon, there’s barely a day that goes past I don’t end up with one or two new additions! Then when I’m in shopping it can be impossible not to come home with a new haul.

Do you prefer to read books by first time debut writers or more established authors?

I like both. It’s great getting read debut writers work and discover new loves, but then I love the comfy familiarity of authors I’ve loved a long time, and you know they’ll never disappoint.

How do you think technology will change in the future for books and the book world?

I’ve got to admit, I was so anti-kindle for a very long time, but now I couldn’t be without! Mainly as I wouldn’t be able to afford half as many books without it, but I also love the ease and accessibility of it. I love being able to finish a book I love and decide instantly I need to download the sequel and read it right there and then. However, nothing beats the feel of a paperback for me, and while I’m sure e-readers are here for the long run and will continue to progress, I don’t think paperbacks are going anywhere. You simply can’t replace them, and people will always keep buying them.

Do you have any favorite bloggers?

There’s so many great blogs I follow, but This Chick Reads, Lavender Likes, Loves, Finds & Dreams and Beccas Books are my absolute favourites; and Ana, Suus and Becca have become very dear friends.

Lastly, why do you love reading so much?

This is always a tough one to answer (without blabbering on for a 10 page essay!) I love the ability to enter another life - another person, another world. ‘A reader lives a thousand lives,’ as they say. You can live out your wildest hopes and dreams and fantasies through books. I love how they encourage the human imagination; how each reader will create their own personalised image of the story that will never be quite the same as anyone else's, and that’s something you alone have to yourself, that no one can change. I’m also an absolutely hopeless romantic, in love with love, and I can never turn down a good love story. I love the hope that happily ever afters can exist. Although I’m still a sucker for punishment from a heart-breaking ending too!

Thank you so much for taking time to answer my questions Paris. It was great to have you on my blog! Who will be next? Come and see next friday.
